Artificial hybridization in plant breeding

This is a practical course. In this course, techniques of emasculation and pollination will be detailed. The crops selected will be of Solanecaea family: tomato, pepper and eggplant, and cucurbits crops: melon, watermelon and pumpkin. These crops have different floral morphologies and breeding systems.

Objectives:

- Introduce the students to the techniques of artificial hybridization

- Explain the importance of the breeding system on the procedure

- Explain in detail the protocol in solanaceous and cucurbits crops
